Once upon a time, I thought that “washing my face” was as simple as some soap and water. After the initial soap-and-water combo, I’d also swipe a cotton pad loaded with astringent over my face which would end up covered in leftover makeup and grime! That meant the soap and water wasn’t removing everything on my face that had accrued over the course of the day. There was probably still a lot left even after the cotton pad!. Growing up, I was never taught the importance of doing a daily, healthy skin care routine. I assumed what I was doing was normal and just kept on doing the same old thing: Soap, water, scrub!!
Fast forward to TODAY and the things I have learned!
Hello Double Cleansing!!
What in the world is double cleansing? Basically, double cleansing uses two different cleansers to replace the old-fashioned soap, water, and astringent to thoroughly clean your skin without irritating the skin itself. The principle is based on “like dissolves like” meaning oil penetrates oil. This means that an oil-based cleanser is better at removing any oil-based dirt, sebum, and cosmetics. That is followed by a cream-based cleanser that is better at removing any non-oil-based dirt and any excess residue left behind from the first step. Kind of like washing your car and then waxing.
I learned about double cleansing during a continuing-education class about natural skin care. In my efforts to produce the most effective products for my customers, I created my Devine Cleanse Cleanser to help effectively remove oil-based impurities from the skin. I was skeptical about oil cleansing but the more I learned, the more it made sense. I went through several trial-and-error test to create Devine Cleanse. I even started using it more and more on myself. To be honest, I was afraid that it would activate my rosacea and then I wouldn’t be able to get it under control again.
It did the opposite!!! What a God-send!!!!!!
Why is it important?
Washing our face is an essential part of keeping our skin happy and cared for, but over-washing can strip our natural oils away.
Then why would I double cleanse? That is a good question!
Double cleansing is meant to be a gentle, soothing process. Oil-based cleansers have more emollients that basically protect the skin from harsh chemicals or other drying agents (ASTRINGENTS!!!). As for a cream-based cleanser, has a thicker, creamy texture and is formulated to help skin retain moisture.
Double cleansing will allow serums, moisturizers, and active night-time natural ingredients to penetrate your skin and work their magic more effectively. It also helps brighten your skin keeping your skin clean and younger looking.
Who is it for?
I recommend the process for all skin types. Of course, the same products would not work for everyone. It is a decision that is based on you and you alone. Regardless of whether you double cleanse or not, it is crucial to find the right cleanser for you and your skin type.
How to Double Cleanse?
First, start with a dry face! Rub EE”s Devine Cleanse on your open palm(s) and gently massage into your face. Place a warm damp washcloth on your face for 20 seconds to loosen any dirt and oil and wipe clean. This will help to remove and dissolve all the oil-based residue from your skin. Please be aware that if you wear a goodly amount of makeup, you might want to do this step twice.
Once you are satisfied that the surface grime has been removed, it is time to wash it off with EE’s Rose Glen Cleanser Lavender Cleanse, or CuVera (Cucumber Cleanser). Make sure to massage your cream-based cleanser gently on your skin for at least a minute. This is important because this will thoroughly remove makeup, toxins, pollutants, and any residue buildup. So, do not speed through this part! Enjoy it!! As you work to remove all the dirt on your face, you are preparing for the next steps of your skin care routine.
As you may or may not know, I started this company because of my rosacea. I created my Rose Glen Cleanser and Honey Cream Moisturizer to remain rosacea-free and it has worked to this day!
My daily routine looks like this:
Every morning, I double cleanse. I start with Devine Cleanse (oil-based) followed by Rose Glen (water-based) to cleanse my face. I then use my Cucumber Clarity Toner, Hippie Hemp Serum (dry serum) and then Honey Cream Moisturizer to seal and protect my skin and fight against the environmental impurities during the day. I then apply my makeup.
At night I repeat the steps although I use Summer Nights Serum instead of Hippie Hemp to repair skin cells while I sleep followed by Honey Cream Moisturizer.
