What Are the Benefits of Vitamin C in Skin Care

Did you know that Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that plays a critical role in skin health? When applied topically, it can help to brighten the complexion, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also holds antioxidant properties, which help to protect the skin from environmental stressors and free radical damage.

Things like UV radiation, pollution and extreme weather conditions can weaken the skin’s protective barrier and cause oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is a state that occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals (highly reactive molecules with unpaired electrons) and antioxidants in the body. Free radicals can cause damage to cells, including lipids, proteins, and DNA, by stealing electrons from other molecules in a process called oxidation. This process creates a chain reaction that can cause damage to cells and tissues.

Under normal conditions, the body can manage and neutralize free radicals with antioxidants, which are molecules that can donate electrons to neutralize free radicals and prevent them from causing damage. However, when the production of free radicals exceeds the body's ability to neutralize them, oxidative stress occurs. Oxidative stress has been linked to several health problems, including inflammation, cancer, aging, and various chronic diseases.

What is Synthetic Vitamin C and Why Should You Avoid It

Not all Vitamin C is created equal. Many skin care products contain synthetic Vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid, which can have negative effects on the skin.

One of the primary risks of synthetic Vitamin C in skin care products is skin irritation. L-Ascorbic Acid is highly acidic and can cause stinging, redness, and even breakouts, especially for those with sensitive skin. Synthetic Vitamin C is also unstable and can quickly degrade when exposed to air or light, reducing its effectiveness in skin care products.

Another risk of synthetic Vitamin C is its potential to worsen hyperpigmentation. L-Ascorbic Acid is highly reactive and can interact with other ingredients in skin care products, such as niacinamide or retinol, to create a yellow or orange discoloration. This can worsen hyperpigmentation in some individuals.

Synthetic Vitamin C may not be as effective in providing antioxidant benefits as natural Vitamin C derivatives. Natural vitamin C derivatives, such as those found in rosehip, kukui nut, and sea buckthorn oil, are more stable and offer the same benefits as Synthetic Vitamin C, without the risks.

At Essentials Everything Skin Care Co., we believe in using only the best ingredients to create products that truly make a difference for your skin. That's why our serum is infused over low heat to preserve the integrity of its natural ingredients and provide the most benefits for your skin.

To get the most out of our Vitamin C - Serum, it's important to store it in a cool, dark, dry place to prevent oxidation. Avoid sunlight exposure at all costs and keep the lid sealed. We've also packaged our serum in an amber jar to help protect it from light exposure. Plus, we use a pump instead of a dropper to help prevent you from opening and closing the serum, which can cause it to degrade more quickly.

It's also important to note that our serum is free from L Ascorbic Acid because we believe in providing our customers with only the best, all-natural ingredients that are safe and effective for all skin types.

If you're ready to unlock your best skin yet, give our new Vitamin C - Serum a try. With the power of all-natural ingredients and 18% naturally derived Vitamin C, your skin will thank you.
